Forms, instructions and other information on firearms law

The Höxter district police authority is generally responsible for all firearms procedures throughout the district.

The granting of permits in accordance with the Weapons Act requires an application. You have the option of calling up various forms, filling them in on screen and then printing them out. The application forms can be found on the right under "Downloads". The processing of applications under the Weapons Act is subject to a fee. The obligation to pay costs arises as soon as the application has been received by the police.

Note:

Please note: In principle, it is still not possible to visit the Weapons Law Department (ZA 1.2) in person, as your request cannot be processed immediately and conclusively due to legally required checks. Weapons law matters can generally be dealt with by telephone, e-mail or in writing. You can find our contact details opposite under "Contact persons for weapons law".

Should this not be possible in exceptional cases, you will receive an appointment for a personal visit from us after an appropriate examination of the facts. Therefore, please do not appear without an appointment and without being asked.

Due to the current increased volume of calls, we particularly recommend using the e-mail address at waffenrecht.hoexter [at] polizei.nrw.de (waffenrecht[dot]hoexter[at]polizei[dot]nrw[dot]de)

Much more information on weapons law can be found on the website of the NRW state police:

Proof of the need for firearms by presenting a valid hunting license (Section 13 (1) WaffG)

Passing a hunting examination alone is not sufficient proof of need. The Weapons Act requires the respective gun owner to provide proof of need.

Hunting licenses must therefore be renewed independently at regular intervals at the responsible hunting authority and submitted to the weapons authority without being asked, e.g. by sending a copy.

For data protection reasons, the hunting authorities do not automatically transmit hunting license data to the weapons authority.

If a valid hunting license is not presented to the firearms authority, the firearms permit will be revoked (regardless of whether it has been issued or not) due to the failure to provide proof of need and the lack of obligation to cooperate.

In their own interest, all hunters are therefore recommended to apply for an extension in good time before their hunting license expires and then submit it to the weapons authority.

Unannounced inspections for the safe storage of weapons and ammunition requiring a license (Section 36 (3) WaffG)

Owners of firearms and ammunition subject to licensing must also allow the weapons authority access to the rooms in which the weapons and ammunition are stored in order to check the obligations (...).

Tolerance of the inspection is an obligation of the respective gun owner to cooperate.

In future, your firearms authority will increasingly carry out unsuspicious and unannounced checks on the safe storage of your firearms and ammunition at the storage location reported here.

A refusal of access or prevention of the inspection will result in the revocation of the firearms license due to the lack of mandatory cooperation.

The same applies to deficiencies in safe storage that are discovered during the inspection.
